The Institute of Robot Sensor and Control Technology (IRSCT) at Southeast University (SEU) is the main body of the Key Laboratory of Remote Measurement and Control, Jiangsu Province, which is founded in 1983. There are now 6 professors, 9 associate professors and 7 lecturers in the institute. Besides, there are 5 post-doctors, 27 Ph. D candidates and 57 Master candidates. The director of the institute is Professor Aiguo Song. There are 1 awardee of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars,1 awardee of the New Century National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talent Project, 2 awardees of Education Ministry's New Century Excellent Talents Supporting Plan, 3 awardees of the Academic leaders of the "333" project in Jiangsu Province, 1 awardee of the China Youth Science and Technology Award and 1 awardee of the Distinguished professor of Jiangsu Province in the research faculty team.

Since its foundation in the “seventh five-year plan”, the SEU IRSCT has been dedicated to the researches on robot sensing techniques, tele-operation robots, special industrial robots and rehabilitation robots, which starts to research on the internet-based tele-operation robots in the earliest time in China. Since 1990, our institute has succeeded in finishing 22 National "863" high tech projects: “SAFMS 6-dim wrist force sensor”, “tactile sensor array”, “applicable tactile sensor array”, “basic research on the force telepresence”, ”research on the implementation of the force/haptic telepresence robot”, “research on the active tactile perception techniques”, “research on the 5-dim force/haptic telepresence robot with simple operation ability”, “research on the passive predictive control techniques for the telepresence tele-operation robot”, “research on the intelligent control techniques and the manual controller”, “research on the adaptive passive control techniques for the space tele-operation robot with telepresence”, “the virtual environment modeling and control for space tele-operation robot”, “research on the force/haptic interaction techniques for the telepresence robot” and so on. Besides, our team has also completed 25 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 4 PLA General Armament Department Research projects, 2 projects by Research Fund for the Doctoral Program of Higher Education of China. A number of research results have been transferred to the enterprises, most of the research outcomes have been applied in the areas such as the chemical industry, metallurgy, rehabilitation for the patients, manned space, etc. In recent 10 years, we have received 2 times of the first prizes, 9 times of the second prizes and 4 times of the third prizes of the provincial and ministerial level scientific and technological progress awards. Our group has published more than 260 domestic or international papers on robot sensing and control, more than 100 papers have been indexed by SCI, more than 160 papers are indexed by EI, and owns more than 80 national invention patent grants. Now the institute is undertaking 3 National "863" high tech projects, 12 projects by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 3 manned space “921”projects, 2 major achievements transformation projects in Jiangsu Province, 16 projects by the National Natural Science Foundation of Jiangsu, the Jiangsu Province Science and Technology Support Program, and more than 30 projects from the industrial enterprises.

  Our institute has paid great efforts on the cooperation with the industry for researching and developing robots, training graduate students. Up to now, we have signed cooperation contracts with Jiangyin Jin Ming robot Co., Ltd., Changzhou Qianjing rehabilitation equipment Co., Ltd., Jiangsu Tianhong Machinery Industry Co. Ltd., Jiangsu Siming Engineering Machinery Co. Ltd., Jiangsu sciyon Automation Group Co. Ltd., Nanjing Han Bea Deman Robot Technology Co., Ltd., Danyang prosthesis factory Co., Ltd., Nanjing kangyou Medical Technology Co., Ltd., Nanjing Vishee Medical Technology Co., Ltd., have also set up the industrial robot joint research center, the rehabilitation medical robot joint research center, service robot joint research center, the intelligent engineering machinery and equipment joint research center and the intelligent prosthesis research center, and built 4 industrial graduate student training centers as well.

  In addition to some general purpose measurement devices, our institute also owns HP54601A data storage oscilloscope, CF920 digital signal analyzer, high and low temperature experiment box for sensors, as well as the self-developed robot sensors like 6-dim wrist force sensor, tactile sensor array, the 6-dim wrist force sensor calibration experimental platform, single DOF telepresence tele-operation manipulator, the demonstration system of internet-based telepresence tele-operation robot, the general purpose heterogeneous 6-DOF force/haptic manipulator, virtual reality experimental platform and real-time graphic processing software. Other major equipments include Rhino 5-DOF manipulator from USA, Delta 6-DOF manipulator and Omega 6-DOF manipulator from Switzerland, Immersion digital gloves from USA, MOTOMAN SV3X 5-DOF industrial manipulator and PA-10 industrial manipulator from Japan, 2 Barret Robots from USA, 2 Pioneer3T mobile robots from USA.
